Commercial lighting helps bring attention to your place of business, provides safety for employees and customers, and helps prevent vandalism and crime.
Until recently, most commercial lighting consisted of high voltage, high wattage metal halide (mh) light fixtures providing all the lighting needs. We would see a 400 watt fixture lighting the side of an eight-story building, then that same fixture would be used to light a 30′ river birch tree.
Recently, some commercial properties began to use 12 volt, or low voltage systems, to try to provide the desired lighting effect. This proved to save money and energy consumption, but many times the low voltage fixtures were not powerful enough to light more than three stories effectively.
The solution? Outdoor Lighting Perspectives has become the first full-service outdoor lighting company to effectively merge these two systems: taking the energy-efficiency and cost reduction from low voltage and combining that with the greater lumen output from high voltage.
We have also completely embraced energy-efficient commercial grade fixtures. As a point of comparison, a 150 watt ceramic metal halide (cmh) will provide a similar look as a typical 400 watt mh.
The next important aspect of great commercial lighting is the design. Many commercial projects rely simply on the electrician placing the fixtures where they feel they should go. Since many electricians have not had any training in design, their insights tend to be limited.
We believe the best way to design a commercial property is to do it at night. We believe in taking the guess work out of the design by setting up a temporary system and marking the exact placement of the fixture. This also allows you as the property owner to add your perspective to the design and nighttime appearance of the building. This way, you can be sure to highlight what you feel are the most important aspects of the exterior appearance of your building as hundreds or thousands of people drive by every night.
Combining the proper use of lighting design, the right selection of fixtures, and quality installation techniques can provide a beautiful atmosphere, save energy, and help keep costs within budget.
